The Association of Kung Fu Practitioners has been in existence since the late 1960’s when Kung Fu first began to make its debut in popularity.
The individuals in this group are mostly students and teachers who practice and accept the art of Kung Fu as a way of life for the purpose of self improvement through the passing on of cultural teachings and family values. The Association of Kung Fu Practitioners does not believe that art of Kung Fu should be commercialized by making it a sport for the purpose of making money. Because part of the design to make Kung Fu a highly marketable product is to remove the cultural teachings and family values.
The Association of Kung Fu practitioners do not feel that Kung Fu practitioners should not spend too much of their time and money on Tournaments. Even though tournaments can be fun and recreational, many of the tournaments promoters either send out the wrong message or divisively use a noble message to lure competitors to spend their money unwisely. The Association of Kung Fu Practitioners have an annual list of recommended tournaments that are budget friendly while still upholding the teachings and values of Kung Fu.
Even though Kung Fu has been subjected to decades of change and commercial fads, the group have still manage to uphold the teachings and values that make the practice of Kung Fu an empowerment tool for betterment of the individual and community. The Association of Kung Fu Practitioners recognized that the world is commercially driven. Therefore it is not practical to keep all commercialization from affecting Kung Fu. Instead the group is constantly working for a practical balance between Traditional and Commercial.
